What's New?

The Charger Daytona was first introduced in 2018 as a two-door model to middling success. So, just about everything is new for the new Charger Daytona. As such, this latest model offers new tech, a four-door model, and better performance.

Design

The exterior of the Charger Daytona has an old-school design more akin to the original Charger model and the current-day Challenger. The interior, too, echoes this design, though with some modern upgrades. These enhancements include a redesigned "pistol grip" shifter, a start/power button, and a wireless phone charger. There's also a 12.3-inch infotainment display and 10.3- instrument cluster.

Not only is the style of the Daytona different from the last generation's Charger but the cargo area is also expanded. According to Dodge, there's about 133 percent more room than the outgoing Charger. There are about 23 cubic feet of space when the seats are upright, but fold the seats down, and the area expands to 38.5 cubic feet. Plus, with the powertrain under the vehicle, the front of the vehicle has been converted to additional storage with 1.5 cubic feet of space.

Performance

Powering every new Charger Daytona is a powertrain with two electric motors, a 400-volt architecture, and a 100.5 kW nickel cobalt aluminum battery. With this setup, the Charger Daytona has all-wheel drive and about 456 horsepower in the base R/T model. In the Scat Pack trim, the performance is increased to 630 hp.

Charging & Range

Officially, the EPA has yet to release the range for the Daytona. However, according to Dodge's preliminary estimates, the Daytona R/T has about 317 miles, while the Scat Pack has about 260 miles. Dodge also says that with a Level 3 DC CCS fast charger, the Daytona can go from 20 to 80 percent in just over 27 minutes.

Technology

As an all-new model, the Charger Daytona comes loaded with a wealth of technology. Standard features include a large 12.3-inch touchscreen running on the Uconnect 5 system. On this display, Fort Scott and Jasper drivers will have access to satellite radio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, Amazon Alexa, and navigation. A nine-speaker Alpine stereo is also standard, but this can be upgraded to a premium 18-speaker stereo.

Safety

To ensure passenger safety, Dodge equipped the Charger Daytona with a slew of advanced driver-aids. Features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist are all standard. New to any Dodge model is the "vulnerable road users' detection" system, which can help El Dorado Springs drivers detect pedestrians and bicyclists.
